Will Shawn Michaels cost John Cena the World Title at the Royal Rumble?

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

After what transpired on WWE Raw last night, the World Title match at next month’s Royal Rumble will be JBL against John Cena. JBL won the Fatal Fourway match last night when Shawn Michaels allowed him to give him the Clothesline from Hell and cover him for the pin.

I have a feeling that Shawn Michaels will cost John Cena the World Title when he interferes in the match. I could be wrong, but to me, that is where I think this storyline is headed. Now that Michaels is working for JBL, he has interfered in his matches and has allowed JBL to face Cena. I pretty much doubt that Michaels will turn on JBL during that match, just because this storyline has pretty much just started and so I would imagine Shawn will still be working for JBL well after the Royal Rumble. It could just so happen that Shawn Michaels wins the Royal Rumble, and would have to face JBL at Wrestlemania. If so, then I would imagine Shawn would finally turn on JBL and “quit” before then.

Anyway, that is how I think things will play out at the Royal Rumble, at least at this moment. But, this is coming off last night’s Raw, so I have the right to change my mind after seeing how things continue.

Joanie “Chyna” Laurer overdoses on birthday

Monday, December 29th, 2008

In another sad turn in her life, former WWE Diva Joanie “Chyna” Laurer overdosed on her 39th birthday this past Saturday, and was rushed to the hospital. According to friends and TMZ, The former Dr. Drew Celebrity Rehaber,  apparently partied a little too much with a mixture of alcohol and pills that she was on. She was apparently found with cuts on her arms and was passed out.

After leaving the WWE, Chyna’s life started spinning out of control. In the years since she left she made a sex tape with Sean “X-Pac” Waltman, got into a domestic dispute with Waltman, stripped naked and jumped into a fish tank in a New York nightclub, and appeared on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.

WWE Smackdown announcer Jim Ross commented about Laurer in his blog by saying: “I truly hope Joanie gets more professional help, the WWE is an option for her, with whatever issues she has and find true happiness in her life. I’m not sure that her kind of happiness is going to be found in Tinseltown. Joanie was always so health conscious when she was on the WWE roster and the reports about her issues the past several years have been personally troubling to me. She had many challenges in her life LONG before she arrived in the WWE which I honestly feel are at the root of her problems today. Nonetheless, I am no Dr. Phil but I do hope that Joanie gets better and finds a vocation that is personally rewarding to her.”

Let’s hope Chyna can once and for all get her life on track.

Batista injured again

Monday, December 29th, 2008

WWE Raw’s Batista is sidelined again with another major injury. If you watched Raw last week, it was announced that Batista wasn’t able to compete that night, because he was still feeling the effects of Randy Orton’s book to the skull. Well, that must have just been a reason to take him off TV for a while. He actually is suffering from a torn hamstring. WWE.com acknowledged the surgery, saying he had “elective surgery” while recovering from Orton’s hit. I am sure that he was going to have that surgery anyway. Regardless of that, he will be out for several months, which means he will miss the Rumble and Wrestlemania, and who knows what else.

Batista has been fairly injury-prone the last few years. In 2005 he had to relinquish the World Title not long after he won it because of a torn tricep. At that time, he was also trying to work through wrestling with a torn lat muscle. He also missed most of 2003 with a torn bicep.

Hopefully, Batista will have a good recovery and will be back in action sooner rather than later.

Watch Smackdown, Wrestling Pay-Per-Views online!

Friday, December 19th, 2008

Hey! If you are like me (that’s not necessarily a bad thing) you can’t watch WWE Smackdown each week because your area doesn’t have My Network TV. I couldn’t believe My Network TV didn’t get with the times and allow you to watch their shows online on their web site! How aggrivating!  Oh sure, you can watch clips on You Tube, but you can’t watch the entire show from beginning to end without having to find and play each clip.

Well, I stumbled upon a great site that will run “live” feeds of the WWE shows as they appear on TV. It is called, simply “Wrestling Fans” (http://www.wrestlingfans.co.cc/). And, they have a link where you can watch WWE programming as they are being run on TV. Why, just now, I am watching Smackdown, just as it is being broadcast on My Network TV! It’s awesome! (Hey, who am I, Elaine Benes? Are all these exclamation points necessary?)

If you missed a show, they even have replays where you can watch shows at your leizure. They also have a “PPV’s and DVD’s” tab, a forum, a chat, and other stuff. I can’t believe they have all of that, but they do! I thank Wrestling Fans for bringing this service to us, since I am sure there are many of us out there. Happy viewing!

Congratulations to Jeff Hardy - New WWE Champion!

Monday, December 15th, 2008

I would like to give my personal, heart felt congratulations to Jeff Hardy for FINALLY becoming the new WWE Champion at Armageddon. It was certainly a long time coming.

Jeff Hardy has put his body on the line countless times for the WWE, only to always come up short when it came to becoming champion. I was sure that since he had multiple chances against Triple H, and since Edge returned to Smackdown, I felt that he would have to be pushed out of the title picture. Especially since he was written out of the title match at the Survivor Series. Jeff has such a tremendous fan base that has been pulling for him forever. I think the WWE didn’t have any choice to finally make him champion. I am sure the crowd reaction alone would be enough to make him champion.

Jeff sure did have quite a long road to becoming champion. Even with all he went through inside the wrestling ring, he endured a lot outside too. A few years ago he was fired by the WWE because of erratic behavior and drug use. Plus, he was burnt out. Then, he made his return to the WWE in 2006 after competing in TNA for a couple years, and he came back as the Jeff Hardy we all knew and loved, being more of a risk taker then ever before. He did have a tough 2008. He was suspended because of the WWE Wellness program, and had to removed from the “Money in the Bank Ladder Match” at WrestleMania 24. To make matters worse, his house burned down while he was on suspension. It burned to the grown, and he lost everything, including his dog. Then, not in September, Jeff was involved in an incident at the Nashville International Airport. A Southwest Airline employee reported that he appeared to be intoxicated and was not allowed to board the flight. He was not, however, arrested as he was said to be “calm” and “co-operative”, and he made other arrangements to get home. But you had to wonder. The next strike against Jeff would be his last in the WWE. Will he ever get his act together to fulfill his potential? Can the WWE trust Hardy if they put the belt on him to not do something they would regret? If he “fell off the wagon” again as champion, that would not be very good press.

Well, apparently the WWE feels they can trust Hardy, as witnessed last night. So congratulations to you, Jeff Hardy for becoming WWE Champion at last night’s Armageddon! I hope you have a nice run as champion.

Please put Kane’s mask back on.

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

As I watch some of the Raws from 10 years ago or so on WWE Classics on Demand, I liked the masked Kane monster heel. I think they need to bring him back.

It was kinda cool when they unmasked Kane long ago. It brought another side to his charachter, and in a way made him more menacing. But, I think he has become very stale. He isn’t really a monster heel anymore. He is almost a midcard heel! I thought maybe they (the WWE) might be going in that direction back when they first started the Rey Mysterio/Kane feud. But alas, they didn’t.

Now, they just can’t go put a mask on him and call it good. They are going to have to have something happen to him that would disfigure him enough to want to wear a mask. Maybe he could have some sort of mental meltdown and ironically somehow become badly burnt. This was the whole reason why he wore a mask in the first place. Most of his body was badly burnt when he was a kid, thanks to his brother, The Undertaker. Although, the more his costume became less and less (remember when at first his outfit covered his whole body, then one arm was bare, and then both? Then he unmasked and now only wears tights. He must of had some awesome plastic surgery done!)

If they did something like that, I would think that could make Kane the demented monster he used to be.  Why not? Wresting could always use a masked wrestler, as long as they don’t overdo it. There have always been masked wrestlers, but not so much anymore. It brings mystery to a character. Rey Mysterio shouldn’t be the only one in the WWE. Then, they could sell more masks, and merchandising is a big thing in the WWE!

Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker at WrestleMania 25?

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

I am seeing quite a lot of speculation on the internet already about next year’s WrestleMania 25 as far as who is going to face the Undertaker and if his win streak will continue. What’s his record now, something like 43-0? Well, no, The Undertaker’s record at WrestleMania is “only” 16-0. So, each year people ask is this going to be the year the streak ends, and if he will finally get his first blemish on his record. It certainly won’t be some midcarder. It will have to be someone who could conceivably beat him. I doubt he will be in a title match, since he was the last couple years (barring the rest of the main event wrestlers aren’t injured). So, who is it going to be? Here is what I think at this point in time:

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, has written that Shawn Michaels has pitched to wrestle The Undertaker at WrestleMania, stating that obviously The Undertaker would go over HBK but the feeling is that the payoff for both Superstars would be very nice. Let’s take a look at why this would be a good match.

They are both legendary WWE figures, definitely future Hall of Famers.  They had a pretty heated rivalry about 10 years ago, around the same time as Degeneration X was formed. But, that was very long ago, and they have been on different brands for quite some time.

WrestleMania 25 will be held in Texas, and what would be a better match than 2 fan favorite Texans battling it out against each other. Now, who knows if they will both be fan favorites at that point, but they probably will be, because at this point in their careers and because the fans respect them so much, I can’t see either of them being jeered. Plus, the WWE likes to have 2 faces go against each other. It is pretty neat to see 2 wrestlers get balanced support from the crowd.

If this match does happen, I can see HBK willing to job to the Undertaker, just like he didn’t have a problem with losing to Hulk Hogan at Summerslam a couple years ago. And, if this is the Undertaker’s last WrestleMania, I don’t think they would have him lose it, but who knows. I would imagine that if this match is to happen, things might start brewing at the Royal Rumble. If this is indeed in the WWE’s plans, it should be intriguing!

I’m going to the Royal Rumble!

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

I am so excited. I am going to the 2009 WWE Royal Rumble, which is going to be held in Detroit. This will be my first wrestling event that I attended since April of 2007, which just happened to be a little something called WrestleMania 23, which was also held in Detroit.

Since I live in Michigan, there was no way I was going to miss WrestleMania since it is so close, even though I live in Northern Michigan, but still, Detroit is only about 3.5 hours away. And, since the Royal Rumble is going to be there next month, I wanted to witness another huge event.  It is too early to know what the matches will be, but whatever they are, it is going to be exciting. There is nothing like a WWE pay-per-view. All the pyro and lights, and excitement. So, I will be able to give you all a first-hand account of all the action, and maybe have a few stories to share, too!

My first blog on The Wrestling Frenzy! Wrestling: Then and now.

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

Hello, and welcome to my first blog on my all-inclusive wrestling web site, The Wrestling Frenzy! I hope you enjoy what you see here and continue to come back.

I have been a professional wrestling fan for almost 20 years now, and boy, what a 20 years it has been! Just think what wrestling was like in the late 1980’s compared to today. Wrestlers were either “good guys” or “bad guys”. There were no gray areas, and there weren’t cool bad guys that eventually turned good, because the fans cheered them anyway. And oh, the gimmicks wrestlers had, not to mention how corny they were. Not only that, but there were only what, 4 WWE pay-per-views each year? Now there is one every month.

When you look back at it, there are things that were better back then, and things that are better now. Let me give you some examples of what I mean:

  • –Tag teams (better back then) - Hey! Remember when there were tag teams? I just don’t mean 2 wrestlers thrown together and called “The Team of So-and-so and What’s-his-name”. I mean actual “teams”. The Rockers, the Rock ‘n Roll Express, the Legion of Doom, Demolition. Heck, even Strike Force. They all had names to their team, and matching outfits and stuff. Not much anymore.
  • –Matches on Free TV (better now) - Remember when the WWE had their “Superstars of Wrestling” and “Wrestling Challenge” weekly shows? It was usually a known wrestler, against a jobber. It was like “Brutus ‘the Barber’ Beefcake against Joe Blow!”  Oh my! I wonder who is going to win? You normally had to wait until “Saturday Night’s Main Event” to see a show with star vs star. Now, with Raw, Smackdown, and Impact it is star vs. star.
  • –Matches (better now) - In this sense: some matches can be more extreme and violent and innovative than in the past. Matches themselves were ok in the past, but as far as “weapons” or “violence” goes, they only used a chair or maybe let off one of those flame thingies in their opponent’s face. Now they can use tables, ladders, barbed wires, sledgehammers, and throw each other off cells! Maybe there was better technical wrestling back then, but with all these gimmicky matches, it can be a nice change of pace.

These are just some of the examples I have of what I liked better in wrestling currently or in the past. What examples do you have?
